Public Meeting for the Draft Action Plan for Disaster Recovery - 2015 Flood Events

The City of Houston's Draft Action Plan for Disaster Recovery 2015 Flood Events (Draft Plan) serves as an application for $66.5 million in federal funds associated with disasters declared on May 29, 2015 and on November 25, 2015. The Housing and Community Development Department (HCDD) is conducting a public meeting to solicit ongoing input and feedback on its Draft Plan. During this meeting, HCDD will continue the dialogue started during the public hearing held on Thursday, August 18, 2016, provide additional information on planning efforts, and conduct an interactive survey regarding unmet needs.

Residents are invited to attend the public hearing and/or comment on the Draft Plan and proposed activities for impacted areas of Houston.

Hazard Mitigation Grant Program Informational Meeting

  • The City of Houston, in partnership with Texas Department of Emergency Management, is applying for FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) grant to assist qualified homeowners with the cost of mitigating flood prone properties.
  • Homeowners may choose to request funding for home elevation or demolition-reconstruction
  • HMGP is a state wide competitive program and funding is not guaranteed.
  • HMGP is a separate grant opportunity from the Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) Grant Program which was recently submitted to FEMA.
  • At this meeting, an update on the status of the FEMA grant application will be provided
  • Please note that interested homeowners must submit all required documents before 5p.m. November 6, 2015 to be considered for inclusion in the HMGP grant application.

Notice of Voluntary Interest for Flood Mitigation Grant

If you are interested in applying for a Flood Mitigation Grant from FEMA through the City of Houston, please fill out the following form and either:

1) Take the form to the ERJCC Wednesday, July 15, 2015, from 2 p.m. - 7 p.m. and Thursday, July 16, 2015 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

There is a really tight deadline.  The full application must be completed and in to the City by 5 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2015.

Final round of storm debris collection

The Solid Waste Department has begun its final round of storm debris collection for residents impacted by the extreme weather over Memorial Day weekend. In District C, pickup will be based on the following schedule:

Monday, July 20, 2015
Northwest Region

(west of I-45 North and north of I-10 West)

Monday, July 27, 2015
Southwest Region

(west of 288 South and south of I-10 West)

Residents must have all debris curbside by 7AM on their designated day of collection and items should be placed away from fire hydrants, mailboxes, power lines, and other objects that will obstruct safe pickup. Debris should be sorted into the following categories when possible:

  • Appliances: air conditioners, dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, and water heaters
  • Construction and Demolition Debris: building materials, carpet, drywall, furniture, lumber, mattresses, and plumbing
  • Electronics: computers, radios, stereos, televisions, and other devices with a cord
  • Household Hazardous Waste: cleaning supplies, batteries, lawn chemicals, oils, oil-based paints, stains, and pesticides
  • Vegetative Debris: leaves (do not put in bags), logs, plants, tree branches

Please note that normal household trash and bagged debris of any kind will not be picked up with storm debris.
