Security Alert - Charity Scammers

Late Friday afternoon, January 4, 2013, a female resident in the 4800 block of Willowbend Blvd, just to our south, was successfully solicited by two young women for funds to support the Westbury Women’s Softball Team and the Wounded Warrior Project.  While these organizations would seem to be worthwhile, these young women are part of yet another scam, the likes of which plagues our area and many other neighborhoods, nationwide, on an all too regular basis.

If these scammers or their male counterparts (they come here by the van full) were soliciting a male resident for funds, the pitch would be on behalf of some men’s or youth team.  The young male scammer that WM Security Patrol’s Officer Ham arrested in April of 2011 made such a pitch (unsuccessfully) to me.

Recycle Political Yard Signs

Whether the candidates you were supporting won or lost on Election Day, don't just toss their yard signs into the trash!  The Environmental Service Center at 11500 S. Post Oak Lane will accept them for recycling -- at no additional charge to City of Houston residents.

The city would rather that yard signs be taken to the ESC instead of placed in the green recycling bins or thrown in the trash, because the city is recovering them separately from the regular recycling stream.
