Single-Stream Recycling for the Entire City of Houston

This just in, from Council Member Larry Green's office:

Attention District K constituents:

Good News! The City of Houston Solid Waste Department is considering single-stream recycling for the entire city of Houston. However, in order to provide recycling service to the entire city, the Solid Waste Department is proposing a $3.74 monthly assessment fee for the single-stream recycling service.

This assessment fee would include all residential households, including those neighborhoods currently receiving single-stream recycling. For those neighborhoods currently receiving dual-stream recycling, their service would be transferred to the single-stream recycling service as well those neighborhoods without any recycling service.

The District K council office is taking a district-wide poll to seek if neighborhoods within the District supports this proposed assessment fee or not. As your elected council member, I stand by the will of the District K constituents. Whether you support or oppose this tentative measure, it is very important that you respond back to our council office no later than Friday, Sept. 14.

Best regards,

Do You Know Your Hurricane Threat?

Storm Risk CalculatorFollowing hurricanes Rita and Ike, the City of Houston and Rice University developed the Storm Risk Calculator to help Houston residents have a better understanding of the threat they might face from the various effects of hurricanes and tropical storms. The calculator is aimed at helping Houstonians make informed decisions about evacuating prior to or after a hurricane.

The calculator shows threat levels throughout the city in an easy-to-understand, color-coded map.
